Porter and Chester Institute named Apple Distinguished School
Rocky Hill, CT (October 27, 2015) – Porter and Chester Institute, with nine campuses throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts, announced today that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2015–2017 for the school’s integration of digital course material and student resources in each of its career training programs.
The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.
“Porter and Chester Institute teaches traditional vocational programs in a way that is constantly evolving,” said Jim Bologa, president and chief executive officer of Porter and Chester Institute. “Our selection as an Apple Distinguished School provides tangible evidence of our commitment to making education accessible and personal to each of our students.”
Students in all of Porter and Chester Institute’s automotive, health care and skilled trades programs are issued iPads for use in classrooms and industry-modeled labs, where they complete the hands-on portion of the curriculum that prepares them for new careers. Providing these tools upon enrollment is one way the school works to ensure students are gaining experience using the tools they’ll use well beyond the classroom.
“We’re preparing students to live and work in an increasingly digital world,” Bologa said. “Whether their career path takes them to an auto shop or doctor’s office, Porter and Chester Institute graduates are equipped to use the technology they’ll encounter.”
Students and faculty report that have access to digital resources has led to an increase in involvement, made classwork more convenient and a heightened understanding of course content.
