Porter and Chester Institute’s hands-on HVACR program can help you acquire the skills you need to install, maintain and troubleshoot HVACR units in residential, commercial and industrial settings. You can choose from two education delivery options currently offered at select campuses:
- Blended Program – Lecture online, labs on campus
Offered at: Bridgeport CT, Hamden CT, Waterbury CT and Brockton MA, Chicopee MA and Worcester MA - On-Ground Program – Lectures and labs on campus
Projected* to be offered at: Hamden CT, Waterbury CT, Chicopee MA and Worcester MA
*On-ground availability is anticipated for classes beginning 8/12/24. Should on-ground classes not be available, students could begin the program following the hybrid delivery schedule.

- Program Length: 12 months
Licenses, Certifications, Credentials
Students have the opportunity to earn their EPA Section 608A and OSHA 30 certification.
This program has been approved at the CT campuses for the related instruction hours required for the Connecticut B-2, D-2 and S-2 licenses. Field hours vary for each license; refer to the state licensing board for more information. Students must achieve a 75 or better in a course for the instruction hours to count toward their “related hours.”
There are no licensing requirements in Massachusetts for general HVACR work. Refer to the state licensing board for more information on requirements in commercial HVACR.
