What Trade Programs are Offered at Porter and Chester Institute?
At Porter and Chester Institute (PCI) there are many programs that students may get involved in. PCI offers a total of 12 programs in the fields of automotive, trades, computers, cosmetology, and healthcare.

Career Industrial, Commercial, and Residential Electrician
- Program length: 12 months
- Offered at: Brockton, Chicopee, and Worcester, Massachusetts
- Learning format: 100% on-campus
- Skills learned: installation of electrical services, electrical theory, wiring, load calculations, electrical safety, etc.
Electrical Technology
- Program length: 12 months
- Offered at: Bridgeport, Hamden, New London, Rocky Hill, and Waterbury, Connecticut
- Learning format: Hybrid (lecture online, labs on campus) and in Waterbury, option for 100% on-campus
- Skills learned: installation of electric services, electrical theory, wiring, basic/advanced motor controls, etc.
HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration)
- Program length: 12 months
- Offered at: Bridgeport, Hamden, Rocky Hill, and Waterbury, Connecticut and Brockton, Chicopee, and Worcester, Massachusetts
- Learning format: Hybrid (lecture online, labs on campus) and in Hamden, CT and Worcester, MA, option for 100% on-campus
- Skills learned: HVACR unit maintenance and troubleshooting, how to work on gas, oil, and electric systems, oil burner assembly, tear-down, operation, adjustment, and problem diagnoses, etc.
Low Voltage Technology
- Program length: 12 months
- Offered at: Hamden, Rocky Hill, and Waterbury, Connecticut
- Learning format: Hybrid (lecture online, labs on campus)
- Skills learned: installation and repair of low voltage systems, solar and wind technology, home theater installation, fire alarm and national electrical codes, etc.
Plumbing
- Program length: 12 months
- Offered at: Bridgeport, Hamden, New London, Rocky Hill, and Waterbury, Connecticut
- Learning format: Hybrid (lecture online, labs on campus) and in Hamden, option for 100% on-campus
- Skills learned: pipe and fixture installation, repairing and replacing worn parts, preparing cost estimates for clients, etc.
