Scholarship Opportunities for the Welding Program
The new Welding program at Porter and Chester Institute (PCI) is now open and can be completed in as few as 10 months. Not only do students learn the fundamentals about welding, but also included in the program is training in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Has Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).
While enrolled in the program, students will be able to take courses that can help them in their career after graduation. Some of these include:
- Beads and Fillet Welds
- Joint Fit-Up and Groove Welds
- Open Root Groove Welds
- Properties of Metals, Pre/Post Heating
- Low Alloy and Stainless Steel Pipes
- Plasma Arc, Air Carbon Arc, SMAW Equipment
There are two particular scholarships for the Welding program that may be available to qualified individuals.
Bridgeport Boatworks - Skilled Trades Scholarship
- Candidates will be selected based upon the Candidate Statement and financial need
- Candidates must be Bridgeport residents to be considered
- Three scholarships of $2,500 with be awarded for 2022 - one each in the May, August, and October terms
- Scholarship recipients must enter PCI between May 2022 and January 2023
- Applicable to prospective students interested in the Welding, Electrical Technology, HVACR, or Automotive Technology programs with an interest in a career in maritime industries
Hornblower - Skilled Trades Scholarship
- Candidates will be selected based upon the Candidate Statement and financial need
- Candidates must be Bridgeport residents to be considered
- Three scholarships of $2,500 with be awarded for 2022 - one each in the May, August, and October terms
- Scholarship recipients must enter PCI between May 2022 and January 2023
- Applicable to prospective students interested in the Welding program with an interest in the welding career in the maritime industries
