Whether you want to convert your print portfolio to a digital version, or create a digital portfolio from scratch, the first thing to decide is where you want to host your portfolio. You could opt for a free website on WordPress or Wix, or you could simply create a Facebook or Instagram Business page. Decide what’s easiest for you to maintain, what platform will showcase your work the best, and what your clientele uses the most.
2. Choose an URL for Your Cosmetology Portfolio
If you decide to create a website, be sure to pick a domain name that’s short, professional, and easy to remember. Your name or the name of your business is a good place to start. Once you have the name decided, do a simple Google search to be sure that hasn’t already been used.
3. Take Pictures and Videos of Your Cosmetology Work
The best way to show off your work is through a photo gallery. If you already have pictures of your clients, you can easily upload them to your website. If not, snap some now! Take before and after shots so people can see how your work can change someone’s look. Another great way to show off what you do is through a short video. You could show a time lapse of your work on a client’s hair or makeup, or you could do a more formal video that markets your services. Just be sure to get your clients’ permission before you share any pictures or videos of them online.
4. Organize Your Cosmetology Website
If a client is interested in a mani-pedi, they may not want to see photos of your hairstyles. With that mind, organize your site based on the services you offer. Create separate tabs for hair, makeup, and nails.
5. Add Testimonials About Your Cosmetology Experience
The cherry on top of your portfolio sundae is the amazing things your clients have to say about your work. Ask a few of your best customers to write a sentence or two on what their experience was like. This will reassure prospective clients that they can trust in your skills and abilities.
6. Include Your Contact Information
Don’t forget to include the location of your salon as well as your phone number and email address. You want to make sure that potential employers or clients can reach you, especially if they want to book an appointment. You can also include links to your social media accounts and encourage people to follow you. On the flip side, don’t forget to add the URL of your online portfolio to your business cards. It’s much easier to hand someone your card than it is a binder full of paper.
